The water industry faces a critical challenge: sustaining the workforce pipeline, particularly in small, rural communities where utilities often have just a handful of employees.

Rochelle Larson, Principal Engineer at the Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority, uses her passion for education to build awareness about water careers among young people.

Through outreach activities, she highlights the variety of roles available—operators, engineers, customer service, and more—encouraging students to explore opportunities that might not require traditional career paths.

Rochelle also challenges her colleagues to volunteer and spread awareness, ensuring a brighter future for the water workforce.

Rochelle was a fellow in the Water Innovation Leadership Development program at Duke University Nicholas School of the Environment and Duke Environment Plus.
