💧H2O INTRO 🤝 Meet Elvy Barton
Wildfire risk poses a significant threat to communities and water supplies in Arizona, with the frequency and severity of wildfires increasing tenfold since 2000.
Elvy Barton, Water and Forest Sustainability Senior Manager at Salt River Project (SRP), shares how the utility is leading efforts to address this challenge through its ambitious Healthy Forest Initiative.
SRP aims to thin 800,000 acres by 2035, partnering with federal, state, and local agencies, nonprofits, and customers. The initiative engages corporate customers to invest in restoration projects, contributing over $5.2 million for 15 projects across Arizona.
Elvy explains that by fostering collective action and scaling solutions to the landscape level, SRP is committed to protecting both communities and water supplies from the devastating impacts of wildfires.
Elvy was a fellow in the Water Innovation Leadership Development program at Duke University Nicholas School of the Environment and Duke Environment Plus.
